Male Liposuction More Men Opt for Body Contouring and LiposuctionNew York, NY-It’s no secret that women make up the bulk of cosmetic surgery patients and it’s unlikely that will change anytime in the near future since women are notoriously vain. But in the past decade, as taboos about cosmetic enhancements have begun to change. Men are more comfortable with the notion of improving their looks through plastic surgery and are flocking to cosmetic surgeons in their quest for six-pack abs and to battle the signs of aging.

Even though men only accounted for 9 percent of overall plastic surgeries performed in 2011, they represent a growing demographic for cosmetic surgeons. Procedures performed on men increased 121 percent since 1997.

“The taboo is lifting for men,” Reno Saltz, a board-certified cosmetic surgeon in Utah told the LA Times, “In the past few years plastic surgery is everywhere. All those nip-and-tuck shows have brought plastic surgery to a common ground.”

This increase in male cosmetic surgery can be attributed to “a combination of medical, technological, economic and societal factors,” according to The Los Angeles Times.

Among the most sought after procedures for men are eyelifts, liposuction and male breast reduction.

Aging in men is most apparent in their midsections and as men age it can be nearly impossible to eliminate a protruding gut exclusively through diet and exercise. Liposuction is viewed as one of the most effective ways to eliminate resilient pockets fat on any area of the body, but the stomach remains the body region that plagues so many men and women.

Reducing belly fat  isn’t just a vanity issue either; numerous studies have shown that excess fat on the belly can increase a person’s  likelihood of contracting heart disease, and liposuction has been shown to reduce that risk along with decreasing bad cholesterol levels; a problem that so many men encounter.

Even though people make jokes about “man boobs” it is no laughing matter for the men who have larger than normal breasts. It can be an embarrassing and humiliating problem to have. But liposuction is an effective treatment for enlarged breasts in men. According to the ASPS, male breast reductions increased by 5 percent in 2012.

In addition to breast reduction, liposuction can also help men contour their abdominal regions, giving them the appearance of well-sculpted  six-pack abs.

Technological improvements also make liposuction and plastic surgery more appealing for men. In decades past, cosmetic surgery patients would have to hide and recuperate for several weeks after a surgery.

Many men want quick results and can rarely afford to miss work for days or weeks while they recover from a cosmetic surgery procedure. Technological and surgical advances have made it possible for men to have a cosmetic procedure as an outpatient.

If you are a man, and have been reluctant to undergo a cosmetic enhancement because of what others might think, you don’t have to worry about that anymore. After you have a procedure and realize that you look more attractive and youthful, your peers will jealous of your improve looks.
